Arrival

After saying goodbye to my family and friends (props to all of you, ill miss you like crazy) and a ridiculously long flight with an unexpected layover in Anchorage, Alaska (like a true American a-hole, I'm wearing shorts expecting to walk out in hot-ass Taiwan) I finally touched down in Taipei. And I'm already starting off on a good note with my foreign relations. Figuring i'd take a shot at refreshing my Chinese, I asked the old Taiwanese woman next to me on the plane if her food was good. "Hao chr ma?" she responded with a look like she was lost or didnt hear me, so naturally i repeat. Again, look of confusion. "I dont speak English." she says brokenly. Hahaha!I quickly came to the realization that my Chinese wasnt as good as i had previously assumed. it was then that i stopped talking and went back to my movie.

im going to be living in a town where there are very few, if any, english speaking people...

  1. You should've stayed in Alaska. Change the layout of this page. Your old one was better.

  2. Miss you loads already! Heard things didn't work out with your intended housing arrangement. That's unfortunate. Hope you don't have to spend more money at the new place than you were planning at the host house. How rural of an area is the new spot in Taiwan? Are we talking about basically farms? What about the towns? Do they have much to them (i.e., restaurants, entertainment, etc.)?
So, with the little you saw of Alaska, what was your impression?
    Take care Mike.
    Love,
    Grandma Fordosi
